Fall Festival Volunteers

We are planning the Fall Festival on the Pasadena campus and it's turning out to be quite the event.

We are in need of more volunteers to help us with set up, tear down, helping at booths, etc.

Are there people/leaders in your ministries who you could ask to help, or email them to contact tammy@mosaic.org to let her know they can help? This is going to be a great event, one that will build community and relationship at our campus, and one that we can invite friends to in effort to connect them to mosaic for perhaps the first time. Any help is needed and welcomed.

If you decide to help set-up for the Fall Festival, please come early - preferably before noon (the event starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m.). We need help setting up a stage, bounce houses, tents for booths, tables, etc. We also need help taking shifts for some of the booths and help giving out balloons!

Also, if you or anyone you know likes to bake, enter our Fall Festival bake-off! Please e-mail zuritalopez@hotmail.com for bake-off entry forms. Prizes for best tasting and most dramatic presentation will be awarded!

Thanks so much!

Artists and the Recession Survey

Is the recession over for you, or still going strong? LINC wants to make sure the conditions artists are facing in the current economic climate are being heard and addressed.

LINC, in partnership with Helicon Collaborative, has developed the Artists and the Economic Recession Survey to invite artists to share their current experience. This survey will provide hard data for all of us who believe that arts and culture are important so that we can achieve the changes in policy, funding, and information dissemination necessary to improve the working lives of artists nationwide.

This survey is being conducted by LINC and supervised by Princeton Survey Research Associates International.

Completing the survey takes about 15 minutes and is offered in both English and Spanish. Participants can remain anonymous.

Terra Nova: LABOR DAY WEEKEND SEPT. 5-7

Terra Nova

LABOR DAY WEEKEND SEPT. 5-7
Terra Nova is an immersion experience focused on awakening the creative spirit.

COME
Life is the greatest form of art. And when we live the life for which we are created, it causes the world to stop and wonder. Whether you are a Teacher who desires to inspire her students, a CFO who wants to explore his creative ideas, or an athlete who desires to sharpen her imagination in the game- this experience will challenge and ignite new vision for life and craft. Terra Nova is for anyone who wants to live more passionate and creative!

MAKE
This immersion experience is interactive and requires those who come to build something together. The last 7 years has forged authentic works of beauty, laughter and compassion from ordinary people with extraordinary talent.

BELIEVE
Faith is seeing what is invisible. For even a moment, it is our hope that through new found friendship, challenge, insight and perhaps some soul searching, you will glance at the brilliance around you and more importantly the brilliance inside of you.

Highways- August 1st

JESS KOEHLER
ESCUELA, TRABAJO, Y HOGAR

Opening Reception:
Saturday, August 1 6-10 pm

Escuela, Trabajo, y Hogar is Koehler’s collection of work that spans from Honduras to Zambia. These three pieces are an exploration on various impoverished children sharing a glimpse of their daily lives: School, Work, and Home (Escuela, Trabajo, y Hogar). She has recently concentrated on children that work with their families in a Honduran trash dump by means of survival and Zambian children who are considered vulnerable or have already become orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Her social photojournalistic approach moves us from mere looker to actually feeling engaged by the emotions conveyed in the images. Whether it’s a simple gaze off into the distance or that of an intent look staring you in the eyes, we are impacted by the power that lies within the composition of each piece, the cinematic lighting, and more importantly the stars of each frame, the children, which holds our attention with such power and grace. If the intention of artists is to echo a message, then in this case, Koehler has done a marvelous job of not only documenting their stories but re-telling them with a resilience that resonates deep within us all, and that shows promise for an up and coming artist.

Jess Koehler is an artist and social photojournalist that documents human conflict and strife in the world not to sensationalize the stories but to re-tell them in a dignified manner. Koehler’s dedication as a photographer began in High School back in central New York, at the base of Adirondack Mountains, and has continued since. She is the first in her family to graduate college. Graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BFA in Advertising Photography. She has made Los Angeles her home because of its rich diversity and global impact as a leading metropolitan city that continues to influence the world with its art and culture.

Artists Make Your Mark

If anyone knows how to mark the world, it is artisans. Creative people that look beyond a blank canvas and make an artifact that changes humanity forever. Catalyst is filled with creatives that are making their mark all over the world and we want to share these canvases with others. Catalyst is calling all artists to share their expressions as artisans, or to share their story or a story of others that are making their mark on culture.

We are calling artists from all over the nation to submit your artistic expression of what “On Your Mark” means. Our hope is to create an art installation of the work created as an exhibit at Catalyst in October. As we receive these creations, we will be featuring the pieces online, promoting your work, linking to your website, sharing your stories, conducting podcast and video interviews and together offering a beautiful expression of what it means to mark our world through any and all art forms. The winning art creation will be duplicated as prints and given to all of the Catalyst speakers at the event as a gift from the Catalyst Community.

WHAT DOES ‘ON YOUR MARK’ MEAN?

Leadership is marked by the moments that change us. Defining moments that are the milestones on our journey. Moments when our assumptions are challenged. When clarity rushes in. When ambition soars. When we are all called to step out courageously, even in uncertainty. When time stands still, and God helps us see our calling with eternal perspective. We long for moments like this. And we associate them with the places we’ve been and the people who were there with us. For ten years, Catalyst has created moments that have left a mark on each of us, a collective experience that has defined a generation who will envision the endless possibilities of leading change in our world; giving more, doing more, and living more on purpose. How will you make your mark?

STORY IDEAS

1) Illustrate the concept of living on purpose and with clear direction.
2) Share a story of someone you know that has or is making a mark on society.
3) Envision the mark you hope to make on the world.
4) Depict the struggles of finding your mark.
5) Any other graphic depiction that is in the same genre of the theme that may speak to you.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We are looking for a wide array of artistic expressions and mediums represented. We do not want to limit the creations in any way, so please create how you best see fit. Please submit a high-resolution version of your creation and a picture of the artist (with bio and website) to jeff@jeffshinabarger.com by August 1, 2009. By submitting your work, you give digital rights to Catalyst for digital distribution, prints, and to exhibit the collection, while giving credit to the artist. By submitting your artwork, Catalyst agrees to promote you and your artwork however they see fit in the days ahead. Catalyst may ask to have a video or audio interview with selected artists to promote the work and project. Thank you for participating in this project with Catalyst.
