Terra Nova 2008

Terra Nova (Latin for "New Earth") is the annual Mosaic Artisans retreat designed to help you challenge, refresh and inspire your artistic soul. At Terra Nova, our goal is to see you grow in both your artistic endeavors and your spiritual journey. Each day is filled with opportunities to stretch yourself creatively in both old and new artistic disciplines including fine art, dance, drama, film, and more. You'll also have plenty of time to enjoy the various camp amenities such as hiking, basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, paintball, etc...Terra Nova is an explosion of art and creativity that will inspire your soul to create and dream the life that God has uniquely designed you to live.

One of the many focuses of the weekend will be creativity, and you will be given multiple chances to create throughout the weekend. As artists, please feel free to bring whatever you usually use as your tools for creating. (i.e.: paints, canvases, paper, laptops, music, guitar, etc…)

The Delicate Soldier

Victoria Silverio has been working with a cast of 18 talented people on the production of her script:
the delicate soldier, an autobiographical story of truth and hope.

We pray that her story reaches people who have struggled with: dysfunctional relationships, substance abuse, abortion, and eating disorders. The goal of the delicate soldier project is to touch lives and offer support.

The show is FREE and opens: Sept. 6th and 7th at 2pm in the Santa Monica Library Auditorium.

Following the show, art work will be available to purchase and supportive community resources will be made available to those who are interested.

Continues a year long examination of electoral issues at 18th Street Arts Center

Santa Monica, CA – In this election year, who will turn “saving energy” from a mere ad campaign to a real lifestyle change, who will step up to the plate to make radical changes from green washing media hype into revolutionary living beyond crude oil and other accepted fossil burning “necessities” – and what will be the impact on the future of the nation?

18th Street Arts Center turns its gallery yet again to a myriad of work that is profound, inspiring, active, and charged with social implications with its show “Citizen Artists Making Emphatic Arguments.” The exhibition, which opens July 12 and continues through September 13, forms the third installment of “Future of Nations,” 18th Street’s yearlong examination of issues related to the 2008 presidential campaign. “Citizen Artists Making Emphatic Arguments” is curated by Adolfo V. Nodal and includes works by Ala Plastica, Lauren Bon, BULBO, CoLabART (Lynn Small + Dennis Paul), Echo Park Film Center, Fallen Fruit, Invisible 5, Natalie Jeremijenko, Newton & Helen Mayer Harrison, Tom Reddock, Shannon Spanhake, Kim Stringfellow, and Robert
Tannen, as well as an installation in the project room by Los Animistas, 18th Street’s 2008 artist fellow.

We are pleased to host open studios for visiting international artists Michael Arcega (Visions from the New California Grant Recipient), Peter Atkins(Australia), and Hui-Yu Su (Taiwan).

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
STUDIO RENTAL AT 18TH STREET ARTS CENTER
SANTA MONICA, CA
18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, CA is accepting proposals for an open studio rental of a mixed-use space useable as artist studio, workspace, and/or office. 540 sq feet with high ceilings, work sink, and good natural light. Parking is free.

The space is available July 1 and will be contracted out for a 3-year term. The studio is available for $756 per month and will require a security deposit.

18th Street Arts Center is a leading residential arts center that supports emerging to mid-career artists and arts organizations dedicated to issues of community and diversity in contemporary society. Our programs include a professional gallery, free art-nights for the public, an international artist exchange, and artist teaching residencies in public schools. BE A PART of the largest Artist-In-Residence center in Southern California! We need greeters, setup, and tear down helpers for our Bi-Annual ArtNight of, SATURDAY, APRIL 12th, 6-9pm. (Setup crew will start earlier and the tear down crew will end later.) By volunteering 2-3 hours of your time, you directly benefit the arts in Santa Monica, the greater LA arts community, and you get to meet some of the movers and shakers in the local and international Art Scene.
